GIRLS@Polimi are the scholarships for the best new female engineering students at the Politecnico, a concrete step towards equal opportunities.
The campaign to collect donations for GIRLS@POLIMI: a project of the Politecnico di Milano that turns to companies to invite them to donate scholarships to support female engineering students, has recently concluded successfully. The initiative is one of the concrete actions implemented by the University to promote gender inclusion and equal opportunities. It aims to increase the number of girls enrolled in STEM pathways.
The Girls@Polimi initiative began last year and is dedicated to those enrolling for this academic year in the 14 undergraduate and the 20 master's degree programs in Engineering, which today still see a low presence of women enrolled (less than 35%). The participation of companies and private donors is also aimed at involving society and the territory in a perspective of social responsibility towards diversity and inclusion issues.
"The support to GIRLS@POLIMI is consistent with Snam's commitment to encourage the study of STEM disciplines by girls and to foster the development of educational and professional paths in this area. This initiative, which consolidates the long-standing collaboration between Snam and the Politecnico, complements our testimonials in schools and universities and the in-company training days that we dedicate to female students. Today, more than ever, STEM subjects are essential to acquire skills that will be decisive in most of the jobs of the future", says Marta Luca, Head of Human Capital Development & Diversity & Inclusion di Snam.
Cecilia Baudino – HR Talent Attraction & Branding Manager di Boston Consulting Group tells us that "Inclusiveness and the enhancement of Diversity are fundamental values for us at BCG. For some years now we have been on a path of restyling our image and the idea that people generally have of strategic consulting - a path that culminated in the launch of our Recruiting campaign "Welcome to the Group", which aims to communicate the centrality of the Person, with all its characteristics and peculiarities, within our Company. The "Girls@PoliMi" scholarship represents a piece of our long-term strategy, aimed at making consulting in BCG exciting and approachable by a wider pool of profiles, represented not only by women, but also by people belonging to the LGBTQ+ community, professionals of different ethnicities and with different backgrounds from what used to be defined as "the standard" for our industry. Despite the difficulties of this year, at BCG IGTI we carried out our ambitious recruiting plan, which included the perfect gender balance of new intake. Thanks to several regional events and workshops dedicated to female students and young professionals, some awareness campaigns on social media and a targeted communication plan, we close 2020 with 41% of new female colleagues. This is a good initial result, which we are going to repeat and improve in the coming years."
"In Intesa Sanpaolo today we find ourselves hiring engineers, physicists, computer scientists, but the pools we draw on to select candidates are still predominantly male. The support for female students at Politecnico di Milano is intended to encourage the enrollment of girls in STEM faculties and is part of the broad program of collaboration with Italian universities aimed at developing young talent and bringing them closer to the world of banking." Roberto Cascella, responsabile People Management and Digital Transformation di Intesa Sanpaolo.
